Think back to before the first day of high school. What thoughts stormed through your brain as the school year approached? Will I make friends? How do I look? What if the teachers don’t like me? Going into high school in mid-August 2012, these questions were completely normal for the class of 2016 at New Haven High School.
A senior class trip can be a great time in the life of a senior. It's time to celebrate the end of one journey and the beginning of another. The seniors at New Haven High are getting ready by packing to leave on their adventure. New Haven is one of the few schools that offer a trip away from home anymore.
It’s that time of year again: a time of upsets, brackets, victory, and defeat. It’s what all college basketball fans look forward to year after year, the annual NCAA March Madness tournament.
Front Street in downtown New Haven is adding a new shop, called My Other Closet. Owned by Tabatha Steib, he business will be a high-end resale clothing store, The trendy store will be selling makeup, accessories, shoes, and clothing in a variety of sizes.
Fears. Everyone has them. They can range from being scared of heights, snakes, drowning, or even being scared of clowns. According to Dictionary.com, fear, “is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” When people are scared of something, they usually have a reason. The reason can be just because what they fear is just creepy, or there might be deeper reason for their fear.
What is a tradition? Is it a routine, or is it something you repeat over and over again until it becomes a way of life? The students at New Haven High School have many different traditions that are important to themselves, their team, and their school. These range from athletics all the way to education standards to uphold.
Homework? Why would anyone want to do homework when there is Netflix, napping, or doing absolutely anything else? Welcome to the world of procrastination, where hobbies come first, and homework comes dead last. Most people procrastinate something in some way, although homework seems to be the most common among teens. The majority of students at New Haven High admit that they most definitely procrastinate.
Red, fuschia, or blue? Mermaid, ball gown, or high-low? To borrow or to buy? Short or long? All of these options run through a girl’s mind when shopping for THE perfect prom dress. However, the girls of New Haven High School know exactly what they want for this year’s prom! Let’s see what they had to say.
Most people have things that puts their nerves on edge, or pet peeves, and students at New Haven High are no different.
A pet peeve is defined as “a particular and often continual annoyance” by dictionary.com, and pet peeves seem to be common among high school students. Whether it’s drivers that don’t use turn signals, loud eaters, or a variety of other issues, many people have pet peeves. This year, a big change was made at New Haven High School. At the beginning of the school year, each student in grades 9-12 received a chromebook
The exact definition of a chromebook is a laptop running Chrome OS as its operating system. However, students at New Haven High School often just call them laptops. Chromebooks for each student was a pretty big change for the school. Last year, there were two carts of chromebooks to be shared by the entire school; however, they were used mainly in the English classes. This year, New Haven High School has made a new addition to the class list, Journalism. It’s not just a regular class, though. It’s the voice of the students, to the student body and the community.
Where did the time go? When growing up, most say that only “old people” talk like that. However, for the senior class at NHHS, that question is becoming more and more relatable. With this question comes thoughts: where am I going, what am I going to be, and what do I want to do with my life? Most importantly, have I done everything I’ve wanted to do ,and am I happy with the choices I’ve made?
When we think of Valentine’s Day, we often think of love, romance, and that special someone. According to Merriam Webster’s online dictionary, Valentine can be described as, “A sweetheart chosen or complimented on Valentine's Day.”
How often do you go out on a date? If you’re a girl, do you expect the guy to pay for everything? It doesn’t have to be super expensive, but when it is, how much will a person spend in order to impress that special someone? On the other hand, how little do you spend for the simple dates, $5, $10, or just gas?
“Are you ready for this?” That’s one of the first things a visitor will hear at the beginning of an Upwards basketball game, held at Memorial Baptist Church in New Haven on Saturdays in January and February.
Do you have extra pants in the back of your wardrobe that you never plan to wear? Did you know that those pants can make a difference in the life of a homeless teen? According to DoSomething.org, there are approximately 1.7 million homeless teens in the United States. These teenagers are trying to survive on the streets of America during harsh weather conditions. To help these teenagers, New Haven sophomore Emily Lewis has decided to step up and take on the task of collecting jeans for those teens.
Have you ever owned a pet? Well, chances are it was just a cat or a dog; however, some of the students here at New Haven High School have some very unusual pets.
Maddie Yarborough, formerly known for being StuCo president of New Haven High School, as well as cheer captain for the Shamrocks, graduated in 2014 and moved on to college. Recently, she discussed her transition from high school to college.

People all over the world are always looking for ways to change themselves or something in their lives. The new year is a time to decide on what these things are and why they’re important. Most people, however, wait until the following year to complete these goals. Throughout New Haven High School, there are a variety of different New Year’s Resolutions that are circulating among the student body, ranging from weight loss to becoming a better person.
Martin Luther King, Jr., what a name, and what a man! Throughout all this nation he is known for his efforts in the Civil Rights Movement against the racism that was once in our country. With the celebration of his life coming up, it is a good time to dive into Biogrophy.com’s article on him and remember, not just what he did, but who he was.
The New Haven Winterball dance was held on Friday, December 19, 2014, between the Junior Varsity and the Varsity game. The candidates were one boy and one girl from each class.
There are many types of books in the world and just as many or more types of people in the world. Everyone has their own preferences on what they like to read. All of the books in the world, no matter what content, fall in two different groups. These groups are fiction (the fantasy and make believe stories) and nonfiction (the real, fact--based stories). The type of books people read depends partly on the reader’s personality Some people may prefer to read fiction books, or they may like to read nonfiction books.
New Haven School District had the pleasure of hearing from Randy Nadler,a familiar guest of the district, on December 11. The originally scheduled date for Mr. Nadler's presentation was December 1, but unfortunately, school was cancelled that day. However, on the 11th, New Haven was able to welcome him for his annual presentation of a new country.
