JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in all 114 counties and the City of St. Louis be flown at half-staff on Saturday, Feb. 20, to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Capt. Kevin T. Roche. Capt. Roche, of St. Louis, was a member of the United States Marine Corps. He died on Jan. 14 while serving his country at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe, Hawaii. His funeral will be held in St. Louis on Feb. 20.

Some try to stay within the United States, while others want to expand their horizons and travel to another country. Many people throughout New Haven plan to have a nice vacation this year. East Central College will mark Black History Month with a free screening of the documentary Banished Friday, February 26.
Banished: How Whites Drove Blacks Out of Town in America examines a hidden side of America's racial history, focusing on examples of primarily white communities rising up to force their African-American neighbors to flee in post-reconstruction America. The incidents took place in Texas, Missouri, Georgia and Indiana between 1886 and 1923. In the documentary filmmaker Marco William follows three African American families who returned to the communities to confront this legacy. NEW HAVEN, Mo - At 3:55 a.m. on Thursday morning in the neighborhood of the Catholic Church, a man was starting his truck to go to work when he was assaulted by an unknown suspect. The suspect, wearing a black ski-mask, gloves, and a camo-coat, attacked the homeowner as he leaned into his truck to start it. The victim fought back, and took the suspect to the ground. The suspect got up and ran towards Miller Street. Ellie Westermeyer has been selected as the New Haven Middle School Student of the Month. Ellie works very hard and continues to improve as a student. Ellie has a splendid attitude and is polite to her teachers and peers. Data Match sales start on Thursday! Students may purchase a list with the top 10 people they are most compatible with in the school, and/or they may purchase a list of the top 10 people they are most compatible with in their class. These results are based on data match quiz results, and results are $2 each. Matches will be sold at lunch on Thursday and Friday. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds people that a combination of strong winds, low humidity, dry conditions, and warming temperatures this time of year has the potential for unexpected wildfires. According to MDC's Forestry Division, the main cause of wildfires is improper burning of debris such as trash and brush piles. |
